Today was a better day for Tom. I had planned to stay at home until after school hours to get in a block of time of chores. During that time, Tom called me twice from the hospital and our conversation was good. I didn’t have any trouble understanding him. Tom was giving me updates and today’s plan. An Echo test was performed to make sure the heart is good and not affected by the meds. Another continuous EEG was put into place to capture one of the “Blackouts” that Tom has been having since last Friday. Naturally, Tom had a small one prior the EEG. The nurse said today was a good day. Overnight was better too. By the afternoon, Tom was down to four IV’s and his new parameters for the blood pressure is 120-200.
Noah came to visit and brought a chess board along. Noah won! Tom enjoyed all visits today, the books to read, and special drawings or messages. He is also messing with the EEG monitor. He likes to watch the monitor and make it move around. Yes, he’s bored.
Continue to pray for a solution to this mystery, and get Tom out of ICU.
As Noah said to his Daddy, “Night Daddy, I love you.”
Took Carsten and Chary to visit with Tom Wed. morning, and then I returned for a couple hours in the afternoon to sit with him. He was doing quite well, considering they put the EEG on wrong, 1/2 done in the morning, then pulled it off, then re-installed it all over again 4 hours later for the test. He was tolerant of that but it kept him from eating lunch until 2:30, which he devoured. GGGreat to see his appetite! He spoke well, is quite tired of the process, but is determined to continue to improve and seems to be one of the best patients I have ever seen, given the time he has had to spend in ICU as they are working on the delicate balance of treatment for his situation. They are weaning him off the BP boosting drugs, slowly, and he still drops down significantly when sitting up straight. Praying for strength for him there. The Cardio Docs stopped in while I was there to continue to monitor that aspect, as his heart has been pushing extra hard for a long time now.
He is quite up to date on ESPN, which means none of us will have a better grasp on rankings or bowl picks than Tom this season! Hope others of you can stop by and see him. His old pastor Scott, and Karen’s cousin Cindy, and another lady brought him a couple books, all while I was there—he is appreciative of the temporary reprieve from boredom!
